Today, Warriors forward Kumingga returned to the team for training and accepted media interviews. Xiaoba compiled some of the interviews as follows:
Reporter: Hey, Jonathan, what has this summer’s experience taught you? Or, what perspective does it give you on the business level of basketball?
Kuminga: In fact, I really gained a lot. I did learn a lot through this experience, you know, not everyone has the opportunity to go through it. Like I said before, if you told me a few years ago that things worked, I wouldn't know, nor would I understand. I’m glad I’ve really experienced the business side of basketball and have fumbled and figured things out there. It was a great experience and a very important study class that I witnessed and participated in.
Reporter: How would you respond to those who have been following your contract negotiations and may have questions?
Kuminga: This is what some fans said. You know, I think a lot of fans are too easy to get into emotions, and most of them are not those who are actually here to watch the game, but those who stay at home, you know, those who browse Twitter, TikTok, social media. It is another type of fans who really come to the scene to support us. And those who say things at home non-stop every day are what they like to do. I have no objection to that.
But what really knows me are the people I communicate with in the office and my coaches. You know, they know what’s going on, they know what I’m investing in this team and what I want to achieve. So I think this is what really matters to me.
Reporter: I would like to follow up, if you quote what your agent said during the negotiations. He mentioned in an interview with the media at the time: "With the current lineup of this team, he may not be able to become the player he wants to be. But this does not mean that he does not want to win, nor does it mean that he is unwilling to sacrifice." So there are two parts of the problem here. First, what kind of player do you want to be?
Kuminga: I want to be the kind of player who can stay focused and contribute to the team's winning. I don't think anyone comes here every day and doesn't think about winning the championship. And I didn't say that because I was in front of you, I'm entering my fifth season now. I know what I want and what I don't want. I have been with this team for so long, and have seen everything we have experienced, and I have also seen the goal we are striving for every year, which is the championship. So I feel that I have reached that state at the level of commitment and growth. Winning the championship is our goal, and I think we are all working on it.
Reporter: The second part, if your role this season looks similar to last season, such as substitute playing time, some floating opportunities, or occasional starts. Do you think that is a sacrifice?
Kuminga: I wouldn't see that as a sacrifice, and I wouldn't think it would be that way either. I don't think the exact same situation will happen. No matter what happens, as long as I know that there is a reason I come here every day, for competition, and put myself in a position where I can do my best to help the team win, that's enough.
