To mark the International Day for Tolerance, FIFA reaffirms its commitment to promoting respect and inclusion and once again emphasizes that hatred and discrimination have no place in football. As part of its efforts in this area, FIFA has enhanced its Social Media Protection Service (SMPS), which is available year-round to all players, teams and officials participating in FIFA events, as well as FIFA member associations.
Since the launch of SMPS in 2022, more than 65,000 abusive posts have been reported to social media platforms for review and removal, including more than 30,000 since the beginning of this year.
In addition, for all identified cases, FIFA will blacklist individuals responsible for serious abusive behavior, with the aim of preventing them from purchasing tickets to any future FIFA events or events.
This year, the Social Media Security Platform (SMPS) has been put into use at multiple events, including the first FIFA Club World Cup™. The platform ensures the safety of all 32 participating teams, with players from 72 countries, competing on American soil for this global event. SMPS uses proactive monitoring to detect and report any violent, threatening or discriminatory content. During the tournament, SMPS monitored 2,401 active accounts on five social media platforms, covering participating players, coaches, teams and referees, and analyzed a total of 5.9 million posts, of which 179,517 were marked for review and 20,587 were reported to relevant platforms.
