New competition system Europa League
Starting from the 2024/25 season, the Europa League will change from the original group stage to the 36-team league stage, and each team will play these 8 games with 8 different teams.
Win in one game and draw one game and one point. After 8 rounds, 36 teams will automatically advance to the top 16.
The team ranked 9-24 will play two rounds of play-offs, and the winner will get another 8 promotion places; the team ranked 25-36 will be eliminated directly.
The 9-16th team, as a seed team, faces the 17-24th team, plays two rounds of games, and plays at the seed team in the second round. The winner advances to the top 16.
Draw Rules
In order to determine these 8 different opponents, each team will be assigned to four levels according to the club coefficient. Each team will draw 2 opponents from each level, one for home games and the other for away games. During the league stage, each team cannot confront teams in the same association (i.e. "Same Country Avoid"), and at most they can be drawn two teams in the same association.
Draw process
Draw will start from the first team,
1) Manually draw one team from the 9 teams in the first level;
2) The software automatically draws two teams in each level as the opponents of the team in the first, second, third and fourth levels (at the same time following the "principles" above);
3) The software automatically determines home and away games, with one home and one away game in each level;
Using this process, starting from the first level team, 8 opponents are assigned to all 9 teams in sequence. Teams in the second, third and fourth grades continue to perform this draw process in turn until all teams are assigned to 8 opponents. UEFA said that the software will ensure complete randomness within the prescribed lottery principles, while ensuring that the lottery of all teams can be completed smoothly. At the end of the draw, all teams will know their 8 opponents, but the specific schedule, match date and kick-off time will be formulated later and announced on August 31 to ensure there is no conflict with the Champions League and the UEFA League schedule.
